Spiritual art is any artistic expression that explores themes of the divine, spirituality, and the metaphysical, going beyond aesthetics to convey insights into spiritual experiences. It can be a religious practice like creating sacred art with magickal themes, or it can be a pursuit that reflects personal feelings, emotions, and the universal concepts of peace, interconnectedness, and growth. Spiritual art can take many forms, including painting, music, writing, sculpture, and more, and it can be created through prayer, meditation, or inspired by nature and personal experiences.  

It explores themes of the divine, the transcendent, and the inner self. 

It aims to connect the creator and the viewer with a sense of the divine, evoke a shift in awareness, and provide a form of mediation between the material and spiritual worlds. And to cast spells of course lol. 

The creation process can be a spiritual practice in itself, involving meditation, magickal tools such as inscribed paintbrushes and canvases, charged and spellcrafted paints, prayer, work with the 9 Muses in Hellenism, or intuition. It is often about letting go to allow for a co-creative process where spirit or deity works with and through the artist. 

Spiritual art is not limited to a single medium. It can be found in painting, music, writing, sculpture, and other forms, such as illuminated manuscripts, abstract art, and even textiles. 

While spiritual art can be religious (like traditional Christian or Hindu art), it is not always religious. Some spiritual art is abstract and focuses on conveying a universal sense of the spiritual without adhering to any specific religious iconography.

Hildegard of Bingen: 

A 12th-century nun who created illuminated manuscripts based on her visions, which she translated into both music and visual art. 

Abstract pioneers: 

Artists like Wassily Kandinsky, Piet Mondrian, and Kasimir Malevich were influenced by spiritualism and spiritual art in their creation of abstract art. 

Georgiana Houghton: 

A 19th-century spiritualist who created paintings as a form of mediumship, or "spirit art," believed to be guided by spirits. 

"Magic arts" can refer to either supernatural practices like sorcery or witchcraft, or to the performing art of illusion that creates the appearance of magic. In a creative or modern context, "magic arts" can also mean using art as a vehicle for intention and manifestation. This is also the essence of spiritual artwork.

In many ancient texts and religious traditions, "magic arts" referred to supernatural practices or occult arts, such as divination, enchantment, and sorcery. Which can all be canvas and paintbrush inclusive. I actually offered a series on divinatory acrylics, watercolors, charcoal, pastels, and mixed medias on canvas where after the client completed their piece, it was read for divinatory properties via the colors, symbols, themes, etc. It was then charged and sigiled to manifest what that individual needed. This often involves paints mixed with crushed or dusted crystals and or herbs/roots, and the use of salt to seal the spell before the paint dries fully. 

Using art for intention ("Art Magick") ...

Art as a spell: 

In this context, "art magic" is a practice where the act of creating art is itself a magical ritual used to express desires, intentions, or wishes. 

The art serves as both the medium and the mechanism for magical work. For example, a painting might be created to bring about a certain emotion, or a piece of music composed to alter a specific space. 

The purpose can be cathartic, meditative, or a means of manifesting something into reality. 

Psychic artistry is a form of art created by an individual who uses their intuition and perceived spiritual or psychic abilities to create works that are said to convey messages from a spiritual realm. This can involve drawing or painting portraits of departed loved ones, depicting spiritual visions, or creating abstract art inspired by spiritual experiences. It is a blend of artistic skill and psychic or spiritual guidance, where the art serves as a medium for conveying spiritual insights. 

A psychic artist can act as a medium, receiving information from spirits and translating it into a visual form through their art. 

It relies heavily on intuition, both from the artist and the viewer, and can be seen as a process that goes beyond ‘rational’ thoughtforms. 

The art is said to be influenced by supernatural intuition, spiritual guidance, or energies that go beyond conventional sensory perception. 

Psychic artists may create images of things they see in their mind's eye, such as spirit guides or departed loved ones, often during a psychic reading or meditation. 

The artwork can act as a visual representation of a person's spiritual story or life's journey, often correlating with symbols like tarot cards to provide deeper meaning.
